I can’t believe the tv they made me watch.
This article was funny because no one was making him watch the shows. It was very clear that he chose to watch them. He was hooked. The article points out how much time he spent watching the shows the author called worthless. He spends a little over fifty dollars a month for these worthless shows. He is complaining throughout the entire article and at the same time is showing how much he is addicted to these shows. I think this shows a little of everybody in this article. People have at least once watched a worthless show over and again; even if it was just to make fun of it later. The article shows just how much people waste on television. Whether it be time, money, or actual happiness.
Report: 90% of waking hours spent staring at glowing rectangles.
The thing that caught my interest in this article was the fact that the author never actually tells specifically what is being watched. Everybody knows. It sounds so official and in need of recognition. (and it really does need to be recognized) It shows just how much of society depends on ‘glowing rectangles’. The article makes fun of the trance people go into when watching the glowing rectangles. It shows how people disconnect from the world and how without the glowing rectangles people do not know what to do with themselves. They get withdraws almost when the technology is taken away. The article makes fun of how people stare at computer screens all day to come home to stare at a television screen to relax from the long day of staring.
